DANJANG (단장)

DANJANG connects the everyday lives of Korean ancestors and contemporary women across time and space, who braid, comb, flick, and adorn their hair.

It interlaces images of women gesturing with their hair, depicted in Pungsokhwa and Free People fashion catalogs, into a movement phrase that repeats, disciplinizes, ritualizes, and even exhilarates its kinesthesia, accompanied by the accelerating Teobeolim rhythm of Gyeonggi-do Dodanggut.

As the dancing body discovers new flows and grooves, DANJANG asks: What is traditional? What is contemporary? Are they even binary? Can we remain fluid in between?
