Contempolytemporal Dance @LAX Micro Fest

FRIDAY MAY 30 | 7PM-9:30PM

New solo, Contempolytemporal Dance, in-progress sharing as part of 25’ LAX MICRO FEST

Contempolytemporal Dance is a solo dance that traces multilayered movement roots of Jung's body. Continuously shape-shifting while defining each moment, this solo fast-forwards the thousand-year codification process of classical Korean dance idioms, reverts stylized movements to her (ancestors’) everyday actions, defines contem-poly-temporal body memories of the self and communities, and ultimately takes the dancing body to somatic ecstasy.

Challenging the binary dialogue in Jung's previous works—traditional vs. contemporary—this project investigates somatic and choreographic methods to render her embedded body memories across different times. Just as Korean dance has always been contemporary in its evolving practice, traces of Jung's movement practices emerge from multiple contemporary moments within her personal and collective history.
